In this Mini Quest, students will consider how an individual is influenced by the political and social context of the time in which they live. They will take a close look at three individuals in the story of Oskar Schindler as portrayed in the film Schindler’s List. Before viewing the film, students begin by reading historical information about the political atmosphere of Nazi occupied Poland to gain an understanding of the historical context. As they view the film, students are asked to gather significant and telling details about the choices and actions of Schindler, Stern and Goeth. They then work with brief biographies and clips of testimony. They are then instructed to create a One-Pager response that demonstrates how all three men were influenced by the political and social atmosphere.
Featured testimony from Leon Leyson, Mietek Pemper, Helena Jonas Rosenzweig.
